Part O - Overheating Assessment
This service relates to Building Regulations Approved Document O.
Published on 15th December 2021, this is a relatively new requirement for Building Regulations compliance.
The goal of Part O is to encourage the design and construction of buildings that limit unwanted solar gain during the summer months and to provide occupants with adequate means of removing excess heat from indoor environments.
Part O only applies to new dwellings and covers most residential buildings in domestic dwellings and residential-like commercial properties such as care homes and student accommodation.
Essentially Part O aims to limit unwanted solar gains in summer and provide an adequate means to remove heat from the indoor environment.
Compliance with this requirement can be shown by using one of the following two methods:
The Simplified Method, as set out within Section 1 of the Approved Document O.
or
The Dynamic Thermal Modelling Method, as set out within Section 2 of the Approved Document O.
